'Rainbow Over Mumbai' to be screened

KATHMANDU, June 16: In order to pay tributes to those Nepalis who created niches for themselves in Bollywood, the Indian Government had sponsored a documentary.

In light of that, and with the initiative of The Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the documentary, entitled “Rainbow over Mumbai” by Nepali director Shekhar Kharel, will be screened on Friday, June 17 at the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) in Kathmandu. The documentary is being screened to celebrate the success stories of the seven Nepalis who made it big in Mumbai. While Manisha Koirala leads the pack of the well known Nepalis in Bollywood, there are many unsung heroes who have left indelible marks in the Bollywood scenes.

Versatile musician “Manohari Da” (the recently deceased Manohari Singh), known to be the right-hand man of music maestro RD Burman, and painter Laxman Shrestha who rubbed shoulders with such diverse greats like the recently departed MF Husain and Ratan Tata are also from Nepal.

Apart from these icons, the golden-voiced singer Udit Narayan Jha, glamour photographer Rakesh Shrestha, set designer Anjan Gajurel, and cameraman Basanta P Karmacharya have also created their own individual names in Mumbai.

All of them have narrated their Bombay dreams in “Rainbow over Mumbai,” the gripping documentary that was premiered recently at Kumari Hall in Kathmandu. The documentary being screened at NTB is for invitees only.
