78 arrested in Khandbari

BHOJPUR: Police today took at least 78 persons under control at Khandbari in Sankhuwasabha.

According to police a mafia network is involved in luring girls and boys to India with the promise of jobs there.

An unidentified group from India has been taking the youths to India. Almost all the arrested were from Khandbari municipality and remote northern VDCs of the district.

According to DSP Pawan Kumar Giri, a police team, acting on information given by a human rights activist, arrested the youths while they were going to India.

The youths were arrested from Naya Bazaar, Dhungedhara and Tumlingtar bus stand of Khandbari. A member of the mafia group had trained the youths.

Januka Khadka of Khandbari, who was arrested, said the mafia had convinced them that they would earn a lot if they reached India after paying Rs 16,000 in advance.

DSP Giri informed about the mafia at a press conference. He said some of those who were arrested would be kept in custody for investigation, while the others would be handed over to their guardians.

Representatives of parties, rights activists, members of different organisations and civil society decided to launch an awareness programme against the mafia network.
