Bid to bring Nepalis home from Yemen

The National Human Rights Commission has taken initiatives to bring Nepali migrant workers home from war-torn Yemen.

Nepalis working in Sana, the capital city of Yemen, and another city Aden had reported that their lives were at risk due to ongoing civil war there.

As many as 14 Nepalis in Sana and 11 in Aden have been living at risk, said NHRC member Sudip Pathak quoting Manoj Bhattarai of Syangja district, who is currently in Yemen.

Pathak said they had asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take immediate measures to rescue Nepalis stranded in Yemen. After the Indian government sent a team to rescue its citizens from Yemen, efforts are underway to bring Nepalis back home along with the Indians, Pathak said quoting Nepali Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Manoj Bhattarai, Anil Bishwakarma, Santosh GC and Prakash Dotel of Syangja, along with Santosh Pandey of Nawalparasi, Khimananda Poudel, and Lekhnath Khanal of Palpa, Binudas Shrestha and Bhakta Bahadur Shrestha of Ramechhap and Prachandaman Shrestha and Radhika Shrestha of Kathmandu, are stuck in Yemen.
