Around half a dozen business establishments in Hetauda have been fined for keeping minors at work. The businesses which had to pay fine for using child labour are: Chandani Bakery at TCN Road, Shrestha Hotel at Sangam chowk, Sangam Hotel, a sweet shop and some other eateries at different places in the sub-metropolis.

According to Hetauda Labour Office acting chief Shyam Shrestha, around Rs 260,000 has been fixed as fine for different factories and hotels which employed children. “They have been fined on the basis of number of kids rescued from those places on Sunday,” informed Shrestha, adding that the owners of the establishments today pledged to pay the fine and never use children for work in the future.

According to Makawanpur-based District Child Helpline coordinator Jhabindra Gyawali, the nine rescued children will be handed over to their families.
