CIAA arrests 35 DoI‚ DoFE officials

ANANTA RAJ LUITEL

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today arrested 35 officials of the Department of Immigration and the Department of Foreign Employment on graft charges. Accusing them of being involved in issuing illegal labour approval for migrant workers by accepting bribes, the anti-graft constitutional body arrested 18 officials from DoI and 17 from DoFE.

“The anti-graft body’s move was based on the information provided by the DoFE officials who were arrested on August 20,” Spokesperson for CIAA Shreedhar Sapkota told THT.

Of the 77 labourers who obtained labour approval last year, 34 are now abroad.
