CIAA warns DoFE, NEA not to trouble public

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has directed the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), home ministry and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) not to create hassles for the public on the pretext of arrests made by the anti-graft body in recent days.

CIAA issued such instructions to the concerned government authorities following reports that hundreds of youths leaving for foreign employment were returned from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
“The commission is seriously concerned over the complaints that the service seekers have been made to wait for hours even for minor works as a reaction to CIAA´s action,” said a statement issued by CIAA´s Spokesperson Shridhar Sapkota. “Therefore, the commission has written to MoFE secretary and director-general of the Department of Foreign Employment to immediately provide necessary human resources and to ensure timely service to the public.”

In a strongly-worded statement, the anti-corruption body has also warned the ministry of labor, the department and the concerned authorities that they would be held responsible if “such weaknesses” were repeated.

The commission has said that immigration officials at TIA returned hundreds of youths leaving for foreign employment in the last three days alone. “Complaints have been received at the commission that immigration officials at the TIA have been creating unnecessary trouble even after the service seekers produced original documents,” said CIAA.

Meanwhile, the commission has also directed the ministry of energy, NEA and other concerned agencies not to delay works on hydropower projects. “If there is any delay in the service delivery the ministry and the NEA will be held responsible,” said the statement.
