DoFE shifting to a bigger‚ better location

Malaysia and Qatar Sections under Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) will be opened in Tahachal by second week of April, whereas the department, including Saudi Arabia Section, Kathmandu Office and Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB) will be shifted there by the end of this fiscal year.

To manage and accomplish work related to foreign employment effectively under one roof, Ministry of Labour and Employment has decided to shift the entire department from Tinkune to Tahachal under its plan ‘Labour Village Gram (LVG)’. Previously, after getting approval from the Rent Committee, the Malaysia Section was set to be opened at Babar Mahal. However, the plan was scrapped when the concept of LVG came into existence.

“Initially, only sections authorised to give pre and final approval to applications for Malaysia and Qatar will be shifted to Tahachal. Moreover, the sections will be handling applications forwarded through manpower agencies only,” said Upendra Neupane, section officer at DoFE, adding works related to individuals will be done at Tinkune only.

According to Neupane, this is a part of the process of shifting to a new location, which is comparatively better than the existing one. The new site is spread over an area of 20 ropanis, which is owned by Nepal Trust and department will be allowed to construct a new building, if required.

“It was high time DoFE was shifted to a bigger location as the number of foreign job migrants is increasing every year and activities in department have also surged significantly,” said Neupane. Further informing that around 3,000 people (manpower agencies and individuals) visit the department to get labour permits for foreign employment everyday, he said the current site is congested and difficult to manage due to overcrowding.
