Five immigration staff‚ four co-accused jailed

The Special Court today convicted nine persons including five immigration Officials at Tribhuvan International Airport for corruption.

A three-member bench of judges Kedar Prasad Chalise, Mohan Raman Bhattarai and Bhupendra Rai issued the verdict convicting them of receiving bribe. The bench also slapped three months jail sentence and Rs 30,000 fine on each of the five immigration staff and one-and-a half month jail term and Rs 10,000 fine on their accomplices. 

According to Natibabu Lamichhane, Registrar, Special Court, immigration staff Dewarshi Sapkota, Section Officer, non-gazetted first class, Surya Prasad Dahal, Bishwo Raj Kharel, Pradip Prasad Lamichhane and office assistant Jaya Narayan Napit were convicted for accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 each from Nanda Kumar Mandal and Manoj Yadav who had offered the amount while Jaya Narayan Napit and Pradip Lamichhane had received the amount. 

The convicted co-accused are manpower supplying agents Yugal Kishor Jha, Megharaj Khanal, Jiwan Thapa, Shreebakha Khatri who had supported the immigration staff who had sent Leela Bahadur and foreigners Wanggonsai and Dharmendra Swami for foreign employment with the passports of Nanda Kumar Mandal and Manoj Yadav. 

They were caught at Tribhuvan International Airport when they returned from abroad.
