GEFONT supports sacked JSSK staffers

The General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), close to CPN-UML, has joined the protest of recently sacked Janak Sikshya Samagri Kendra (JSSK) employees demanding their reinstatement.

The protesters have warned of disrupting the services of the government publication house if they are not reinstated immediately. They have demanded retirement fund if the JSSK does not wish to reinstate them. Issuing a press statement on Friday, Independent Press Workers Unions of Nepal under GEFONT said the government violated the provisions of labour law by sacking the JSSK employees. “The Labour Act envisions giving permanent posting to employees who have completed 220 days in the service. However, the JSSK sacked its staffers who had worked for up to 20 years,” read the statement.

On October 18, the JSSK terminated 235 temporary employees following the direction of the Finance Ministry. Though the JSSK has just 585 posts some 741 employees were working there at the behest of political parties.
