Hospital staffers halt services

All government and private health institutions in the district, except their emergency services, remained closed throughout the day on Thursday due to a protest by staffers at the Bharatpur Hospital.

The agitating staffers were demanding that the Hospital Development Committee revoke its earlier decision to set up a revolving fund in the name of a woman, who died while undergoing treatment on Monday, by deducting certain amount of their salary. Accusing doctors of negligence, relatives of Sharada Raut, who died after she was admitted to the hospital for deliver, had demanded that her children should be provided with free education and a revolving fund should be set up in her name. Following the woman’s death, the committee had decided to set up a revolving fund worth Rs 1 million and provide free education to her children.

The health institutions resumed services at around 6pm after a meeting between local political parties’ representatives, the protesters and the Hospital Development Committee agreed to address the demands and decided to urge the District Administration Office to form a probe committee.
