No compensation for murdered migrant

The family of a migrant worker murdered in Saudi Arabia five years ago is in shreds after being deprived of rightful compensation. Kabiraj Pariyar of Chhisti-7 was murdered at work on November 5, 2009. However, five years into the fateful incident Pariyar’s family has been deprived of their due compensation. His wife is yet to receive Kabiraj’s one year salary and insurance.

After several failed attempts in recouping relief money, Pariyar’s wife Bishnumaya is said to have been in a state of depression. With a daughter having graduated SLCs and four school-going children, Bishnumaya has been making ends meet by working day and night on minimum wage.

Bemoaning the concerned authorities’, including Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Promotion Board, indifference to her problem, Bishnumaya said that her life had become insurmountable. The wife added that she was yet to pay off the debt incurred when sending off her husband to Saudi Arabia. “We have been managing our educational and daily expenses by the wage earned from working in the fields and as porters for neighbours and local businessmen,” said their daughter Kabita. According to Bishnumaya, she has submitted all related documents to the concerned agencies but is yet to hear back from them.

Stating that the District Administration Office had received Rs 10.93 million in compensation for 38 deceased migrants from Baglung, accountant Yubaraj Sharma said they have already distributed Rs 10.9 million. He said Pariyar’s compensation might have been delayed due to paperwork problems.
