Union protest at Kantipur Publication postponed

All Nepal Revolutionary Federation of Trade Union affiliated to CPN-Maoist today said its professional organisation has postponed all protest programmes in Kantipur Publications Pvt Ltd, realising the inconvenience caused to readers and stakeholders due to obstruction in distribution of Kantipur and The Kathmandu Post dailies.

A press statement issued by Ramdeep Acharya, coordinator ANRFTU said, “Our professional organisation has decided to postpone the protest programmes in the publications by putting forth a charter of seven-point demand, keeping in mind the inconvenience caused to the readers and the request from stakeholders.” He also said ANRFTU expects the management at Kantipur to take its demands seriously.

CPN-Maoist and its unions came under mounting pressure from the Nepali media fraternity and all quarters to stop the obstruction which had inconvenienced them for the past 10 days.

Different media associations, various political parties and other stakeholders had been raising the issue to intervene in the situation and guarantee media industry’s right to operate without hindrance.
