When in Japan‚ do as the Japanese do

‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do’ goes the old adage, which the Embassy of Nepal in Japan is reminding the Nepalis visiting the Land of the Rising Sun.

With the rise in problems faced by the Nepalis in Japan, the Nepali mission in Tokyo has urged all the Nepalis wishing to visit the country to learn the local language, culture, lifestyle and legal system in advance so that their stay in the country could be easier.

The embassy has made a public call to the Nepalis working in Japan to be prudent at workplace and acquire knowledge and ability required to work in a country like Japan which is renowned for quality work and products globally. “Problems and difficulties have also increased with the rise in the flow of Nepalis into Japan,” read the notice.

An embassy staff recently shared with THT that cases of looting, fraud, deception were on the rise of late and that there were reports of Nepali workers being fired from companies because of lack of their professional acumen and knowledge of work culture.

“We also call on all to keep their vital documents, including citizenship certificates and passports, with themselves safely and not give them to anyone else,” the embassy urged, cautioning that not keeping such important documents with themselves could invite problems anytime in a foreign land.

Stating that Japanese people are renowned for their discipline and politeness, the embassy has said that Nepalis visiting and living in Japan are requested to maintain their discipline and politeness at workplace and wherever they live and visit.
