Ten Nepali migrant workers in Qatar have been left in the lurch after their employer ran away. The workers said that they are finding it hard to survive ever since they had to quit going to work since March 26. “We are without jobs and neither dœs our company provide us with food or send us back home,” said Jiban Singh Bishwokarma of Bardiya. The Nepali migrants, who worked for the Black Tiger and Constructing Company, are currently living in a camp in Saheliya, Qatar. Bishwokarma said that he came to Qatar four months ago paying Rs 60,000. Similarly, nine other migrant workers landed in the country through a manpower company, Trikon Inter-national Private Limited, after paying Rs 60,000 to Rs 90,000 each. They complained of their employer neither issuing them a visa nor paying the agreed salary. “We used to work empty stomach,” lamented Rajendra Shahi who hails from Kalikot. The Nepali Embassy in Doha said that it has not rescued the workers yet due to financial constraints to purchase them air tickets to return back to Nepal. “The situation is serious and are providing them with food at present. We have asked the concerned manpower agency to manage air tickets themselves,” labour attaché Indradev Pandey said, adding that the manpower agency, however, is reluctant to take the responsibility of the workers. He said that all officials of the recruiting company are currently out of contact. The embassy said that it has recommended the Department of Foreign Employment to take action against the manpower agency. The ten migrant workers in Qatar are finding it hard to survive ever since their employer ran away.
