9-point criteria for domestic helpers to work abroad

Ministry of Labor and Transport Management has fixed nine-point criteria for Nepali workers flying abroad to work as domestic helpers.

Speaking at a weekly press meet organised at the Ministry of Information and Communications on Monday, spokesperson of Ministry of Labor and Transport Management, Purna Chandra Bhattarai said the new condition has been set in the Working Procedures to manage the Nepali workers going to work as domestic helpers, 2067. Such provisions have been set for the workers going to work in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The conditions include minimum salary, provision of insurance, economic standards and social status of the landlord/landlady who keep the domestic helpers, provision of safe housing for workers including others.

On the occasion, Bhattarai said the first amendment to the Foreign Employment Regulations had led to an increase in the compensation amount received by the deceased workers’ family taking it to Rs 150,000 and also deployment of a labor attaché if over 1,000 women workers are working in any particular country.
