Labour minister urges more jobs

Minister for Labour and Transport Management Mohammad Ishtiyaq Rayi has called for urgent shift in focus to the productive sector for job creation to lift the least development countries.

The minister was addressing the Non-Align Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting in Geneva on Monday.

Minister Rayi said it was time to direct adequate financial resources to productive sectors that yielded jobs and livelihoods. The minister expressed strong support for NAM’s appeal to developed countries to meet their pledged targets of ODA to the LDC. On the sidelines, Minister Rayi met the Qatari Minister of Social Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour Nasser Bin Abdullah Al-Humaidi. The discussion dwelt on expanding cooperation, including recruitment of Nepali domestic workers in Qatar.

He also met Muhammad Ahsan Raja, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower, Pakistan yesterday.
