Locals clash with factory workers

Twelve persons were injured in a clash between employees of a Bode-based garment factory and locals on Friday night over the issue of night operation at the unit.

The clash ensued after Madhyapur-3 locals protested in front of Asma Garments, asking it to shut down night operation because noise from the factory was ‘disturbing’ their sleep.

DSP Rajan Adhikari informed that people from both sides were injured in the incident. “Locals and garments workers hurled stones at each other for more than an hour before police arrived at the scene,” he said. Most of the injured are factory workers.

The injured, who were taken to Korea-Nepal Friendship Hospital, were discharged. The locals said they had to intervene after the factory turned a deaf ear to repeated requests to stop playing loud music at night.

Dozens of security personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident. However, police have not made any arrests.

DSP Adhikari said that locals and the factory owner were discussing the issue.
