Nepali Embassy in Malaysia has decided to visit the Nepali migrants, who are doing time in various prisons in the country, to hear out their cases before taking initiative to send them home.

According to the figure provided by the Malaysian authorities, 329 Nepalis are jailed in Malaysian prisons for committing various crimes.

“We will visit them and see what we can do diplomatically to help them out of their situation,” said Nepali Ambassador to Malaysia Niranjanman Singh Basnyat. The embassy officials said they are expecting difficulty in establishing the identity of some jailed Nepali migrants, who had reached the country on someone else’s passports.

The embassy has also asked the Malaysian authorities to provide the data on the Nepalis held in the immigration detention centres, who are waiting to be sent home.

“We will begin the process to send the Nepali detainees home once we have received their data and information,” said Basnyat.

Many migrant Nepalis in holding facility for illegal and convicted immigrants return home with the help of their friends and family back home. The Nepali mission in Malaysia plans to help out those Nepalis without friends and the wherewithal to fly back home.
