CIAA asks govt to rein in educational consultancies

Acting upon complaints of forgery filed against several educational consultancies and language training centers, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has asked the line ministries to impose stricter rules to regulate all of such institutions.

The government´s directive on education counseling and language training issued in 2011 states that such agencies must be registered with the Office of the Company Registrar. Similarly, the counseling and training fee also needs to be regulated by the government.

However, the government is still unaware of the exact number of consultancies working in the country, states the press statement issued by CIAA Spokesperson Keshab Prasad Ghimire.

The CIAA has directed the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry to strictly monitor the activities of the consultancies.

The growing number of complaints against such institutions show that the government needs to shut down those which have been operating illegally and make the remaining ones renew their licenses and guarantee reliable services, the statement read.
