DoFE to open new office for migrants

The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has set up a new section in Tahachal to cater to the migrant workers aspiring for Malaysia and Qatar. DoFE officials said the office has completed entire preparations to launch the service beginning Sunday.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) added that they moved to the new location to provide more swift services. The department based in Tinkune currently provides its entire service through two private buildings built for household purpose.

At least 2,000 aspiring migrant workers visit the office every day. “Even with the growing number of visitors we have been compelled to confine our branch offices to a single room,” lamented DoFE spokesperson Badri Karki.

Department officials added that the ministry should also consider new staff soon as the current are inadequate to handle the responsibilites. Though the government has deputed a total of 160 staffers, some 60 staffers are yet to assume their duties.

The recent arrest of the officials at the department by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has created a shortage of manpower, resulting in slower services.
