Immigration permission mandatory for travelling to third countries via India

In its attempt to minimize human trafficking, the government has decided to make it mandatory for its citizens to register themselves at immigration offices in both Nepal and India while travellling abroad using Indian air and sea ports.

The government has urged the Indian government not to allow any Nepali citizen to travel to any third country without receiving no-objection letter from the Nepali Embassy.

Home Minister Bamdev Gautam informed Social Justice and Human Rights Committee of parliament, on Monday, that any Nepali citizen going abroad through Indian air and sea ports must receive departure permission from the immigration offices. He further said the government has requested the Indian side not to allow Nepali citizens to use Indian air and sea ports without showing arrival stamp.

Gautam claimed that the government has tightened travel permissions to the Gulf and several African countries, with a view to minimize human trafficking. For those travelling to the Gulf and south African nations, we have made a return ticket, hotel booking, and a guarantor among other things mandatory.
