Judicial remand for NOC trade union chief

The Special Court today remanded Nepal Oil Corporation Trade Union Chairman Devi Prasad Neupane to judicial custody till tomorrow. Neupane has been facing the charge of obstructing the investigation of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority against his bosses.

A three-member bench of judges Kedar Prasad Chalise, Mohanraman Bhattarai and Bhupendra Rai issued the order following today’s hearing. The bench also directed CIAA to let lawyer and family members meet him after Neupane’s wife, Advocate Meera Dhungana filed a petition stating that CIAA and the police did not allow her to meet Neupane in the custody.

The anti-graft body had arrested Neupane on Friday for allegedly obstructing the investigation it launched against his superiors on corruption charges.

CIAA alleged that Neupane challenged the investigation against the top officials and issued a press release and gave interviews to television channels criticising anti-graft body’s investigation and warned to launch protests with the help of employees.

On Tuesday, the anti-graft body had arrested Acting Executive Director Suresh Kumar Agrawal, Director of Financial Department Nagendra Sah and Managers Netra Prasad Kafle and Kamal Prasad Sharma for distributing bonus giving in to pressure from the trade union.
