Nepali migrant worker living in Malaysia accused of harassing women on digital sphere

ITAHARI, August 3: Several women from Morang and Jhapa districts have complained of cyber harassment as a person called Prakash Lekwa Khajum is found involved in sending doctored and nude pictures in social media.

Khajum, who originally hails from Chhathar Rural Municipality-3 of Tehrathum district, is accused of sending doctored nude images in their social media accounts and pages.

A woman from Damak-1 said she was harassed multiple times online. ''He sends nude pictures via group messenger. He dares it just because he lives abroad.''  Another woman from Mechinagar-2, Charali, shared she was tortured with daily risque images for weeks. ''He does not stop doing what troubles girls the most,'' she said.

Khajum is a migrant Nepali worker in Malaysia. Victims have collectively lodged a cyber crime complaint at Cyber Crime Bureau of Nepal Police in Kathmandu. He is also accused of torturing men on social media by altering pictures, writing condolences and sending these into their inboxes.

Even a DSP of Armed Police Force, Aindra Limbu, said he was troubled by cyber harassment meted out by Khajum. ''He repeatedly makes me a victim online'', said Limbu. “This needs to be stopped. I have heard he is an illegal worker in Malaysia.''

Similar is the story of Gorkhe Rai of Chulachuli Ilam and Bishal Gurung of Damak, Jhapa. According to Kishor Shrestha, a media person from Urlabari Morang, he had heard many complaints against Khajum.

''He mostly uses his two names like 'Heart Avleen Khazoom’ and ‘Mangolian Heart Avleen’ to spread online defamation and pornography,'' said Shrestha, ''Nepal Police must take stringent action against this cyber criminal.'' It has been weeks of formal complaints lodged with Nepal Police but the cyber crimes have continued, he said.

Growing cyber harassment is a serious safety threat to women these days.
