Parties commit to improve service for migrants

Have agreed on eight agendas which will be forwarded to the Department of Foreign Employment soon on the initiative of the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA), four major associations engaged in the foreign employment business expressed their commitment to developing a common software for systematic, simple and smooth functioning of foreign employment services.

In order to develop the software, all the four parties — NAFEA, Nepal Health Professional Federation (NHPF), Nepal Foreign Employment Orientation Federation (NFEOF), and insurance companies — have formed a pressure group that will be led by the president of NAFEA Bal Bahadur Tamang.

The parties agreed on eight agendas which will be forwarded to the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) soon. These agendas are expected to benefit migrant workers and also enhance

the credibility of various agencies involved in the business.

“The agendas will work as a binding factor among the parties and also as a tool to pressurise DoFE,” said Tamang. As per the first agenda, an online site will be developed and operated by DoFE, which will provide access to the concerned parties on various related information.

Information officer at DoFE Diwas Acharya said: “We have already started developing the online site under the name ‘Foreign employment management system’ of which we have a pilot model ready, but due to budget constraints we have not been able to move ahead as quickly as we would like.”

Besides, the parties also focused on following the thorough procedures of orientation, factual medical report, making insurance claims easy, banning individual agents and promoting agencies, putting an end to the commission system to promote fair practices, and including foreign employment orientation programmes in the secondary level syllabus.

In this regard, the president at NHPF Prabin Tiwari said that all the health check-up centres should be cautious and ensure quality to save the compensation amount that has to be paid by NHPF if a migrant worker is sent back home from the destination country.

Similarly, the president of NFEOF Purna Bahadur Malla emphasised the necessity of sharing information online among parties which will end all the doubts and promote healthy competition ensuring quality.

Likewise, Chirayu Bhandari, speaking on behalf of insurance companies, asked all the parties to be honest in their dealings.
