Year of Publication: 2023

This paper presents some of the key statistics relating to Nepali women’s migration for foreign jobs. The findings are based on an analysis of publicly available migration-related data and raw datasets provided by government institutions, including the National Population and Housing Census, the Nepal Living Standards Survey, the Nepal Labour Force Survey, the Foreign Employment Information Management System and the Foreign Employment Welfare Management System. The brief also discusses the limitations in existing migration data and highlights the need for gender-responsive policies and procedures to enhance women’s access to safe, orderly and dignified migration. A set of recommendations are presented at the end for the systematic collection and management of migration data to support gender-responsive policy formulation and programming.
